Today has been cool and breezy.

Round 1, we picked up sticks in the ritual meadow.

Round 2, I watered potted plants on the porch.

Round 3, I planted moonflowers in the barrel garden and the support wire for the telephone pole.  I also put more morning glory seeds around the wire.  Then I trimmed grass around the wagonwheel garden.

This afternoon we went out to Harbor Freight and bought a convertible handtruck (it can go on two wheels or four), a toolkit with a very nice assortment of items, and a moving blanket (which doubles as a picnic blanket).  :D

The Big Gay Fiction Giveaway is back! May 22-29, around 80 authors are giving away free books, short stories, chapters, and box sets.

It's run by Instafreebie, which means you give them an email address, they sign you up for a newsletter, and you get a DRM-free epub, mobi, or (sometimes) pdf sent to you. It's pretty painless except for all the newsletters you'll then belong to.

The half-price sale in Shiv is now complete. Three new poems have been sponsored and posted in full. I still need to start a new epic with a partial payment that came in late last night.

The [community profile] crowdfunding Creative Jam ran this weekend on a theme of "Baker's Dozen." See my activities.

Poetry in Microfunding:
"A Hope and a Promise" belongs to Polychrome Heroics.  Aidan and Mrs. Ozenne discuss secure attachment.  "Essential for Human Survival" belongs to Polychrome Heroics: Cassandra.  Groundhog and Cassandra explore the snack room.  "The Inner Transition" belongs to Polychrome Heroics: Berettaflies.  Valor's Widow finds out what Stylet has in his backpack.

Weather has been intermittently wet but is drying out now.  Today is sunny with a little breeze.  There is standing water in the fields again.   The mourning dove nest under the kitchen window on the porch still has two white eggs.  Currently blooming: violets, dandelions, honeysuckle, spiderwort, carnations, marigolds, petunias, lantana, million bells, snapdragons, zinnias, chives, white globe allium, firecracker plant, torenia, yarrow, blackberries.  The iris and peonies are winding down.  Two big flower stalks are coming up from the yucca plants in the white garden.

Sunday Yardening

Today was much cooler, with a brisk chilly wind.

Round 1, I picked up empty pots to throw away, and trimmed grass around the barrel garden.

Round 2, I sprayed weeds around the barrel garden, and picked up more empty pots to move out of the way.

Round 3, I trimmed grass around the white garden at the end of the driveway.  The yucca plants there are putting up flower stalks.  :D

The dove is still sitting on two white eggs near the kitchen window.

This poem is spillover from the May 2, 2017 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by a prompt from [personal profile] alexseanchai plus conversations with [personal profile] alatefeline, [personal profile] chanter_greenie, [personal profile] stardreamer, and other fans. It has been sponsored by Anthony & Shirley Barrette. This poem belongs to the Calliope thread of the Polychrome Heroics series.

Warning: This poem contains some intense topics. Highlight to read the warnings, some of which are spoilers. Calliope and Vagary are in a mess of a bond, which complicates their consent for anything involving each other. They're trying to make the best of it, and making some progress, but it's just not a great situation. So there is awkwardness, fumbling, social anxiety, tripping over all sorts of emotional baggage, Vagary's low self-esteem, Calliope's standoffishness, boundary issues, trust issues, reluctant touching, gender issues (one of the few things Vagary handles gracefully), physical tension, crappy dancing, telepathic spillover, bystander assumptions, trying not to cry in public, knowing when to give up, reference to bad therapists of the past, Vagary's perspective of their initial bonding, and other angst. They do make some good progress, though, and nobody gets punched in the face or groped in personal places. Special thanks to the several readers who realized that dancing was liable to be a disaster. If these are sensitive issues for you, please consider your tastes and headspace before reading onward.
